Summary
The intermediate-level project leader will
work in NREL's Hydrogen Technologies and Systems Center in
managing a coordinated national effort for hydrogen
education and outreach. As a member of this team, the
intermediate-level project leader will help develop and
manage projects to advance education and outreach strategies
and products in hydrogen. The intermediate-level project
leader will work directly with hydrogen industry
organizations, codes and standards organizations, DOE, and
other interested parties to coordinate the preparation of
hydrogen education and outreach. This position within the
Center for Hydrogen Technologies and Systems will support
NREL's role in the education subprogram of the DOE Hydrogen,
Fuel Cells and Infrastructure Technologies (HFCIT) Program.
Duties
Responsibilities include developing and
managing technical information and dissemination to
establish stronger understanding and adoption of hydrogen
standards, codes, regulations and technologies. An important
part of the job is to develop, manage and strengthen the
understanding and implementation of hydrogen and related
technologies. This includes developing and packaging
introduction to hydrogen and information relevant to
applicable codes and standards, including readily available
code and permitting resources developed by DOE, NREL, and
other key stakeholders. This position works with outside
partners on information development and
dissemination/delivery.
Minimum Requirements
Master's degree in engineering, other
relevant technical disciplines, or equivalent relevant
experience, plus six years of relevant engineering and/or
R&D experience. Demonstrated ability to manage and oversee
intermediate projects. Ability to market and negotiate
programs/projects with customers. Experience in project
management and financial planning. Ability to make decisions
and work under guidance. Very good interpersonal, conflict
resolution, communication, and teaming skills. Demonstrated
understanding of the physical and chemical properties of
hydrogen and the effects of these properties on the safe
production, distribution, and utilization of hydrogen as an
energy carrier and fuel.
Preferred
Knowledge of and experience with the codes
and standards development process in the United States.
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to
interact and collaborate with technical experts serving on
standards and model code development committees. Established
record or research and development in energy, experience
working with hydrogen as an energy carrier of fuel.
Knowledge of DOE's HFCIT Program and current and planned
codes and standards activities.
Pre-employment drug testing required.

Summary
The project leader will work in NREL's
Hydrogen Technologies and Systems Center in leading a
coordinated national agenda for hydrogen codes and
standards. As the lead member of this team, the project
leader will help develop and manage research projects to
develop a better technical and scientific foundation for
requirements in hydrogen codes and standards. The project
leader will work directly with standards and model code
development organizations, the Department of Energy (DOE),
and other interested parties to coordinate the preparation
of hydrogen fuel and device standards and model codes. The
project leader will support the international harmonization
of pertinent codes and standards. This position, within the
Center for Hydrogen Technologies and Systems, will support
NREL's role in codes and standards subprogram of the DOE
Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and Infrastructure Technologies (HFCIT)
Program.
Duties
Codes and Standards Lead:
Manage and coordinate the hydrogen codes and standards team
in furthering the goals of DOE's hydrogen codes and
standards activity. This will include developing and
managing research to help establish stronger scientific
bases for technical requirements in hydrogen standards,
codes, and regulations. An important part of the job is to
manage and strengthen the role of the National Hydrogen and
Fuel Cells Codes and Standards Coordinating Committee.
Provide technical support as needed to standards and code
development organizations to incorporate R&D results in the
hydrogen codes and standards development process. Manage
NREL research on hydrogen component testing, sensor testing,
and hydrogen behavior in structures.
Minimum Requirements
Master's degree in science, engineering,
or other relevant technical disciplines or equivalent
experience. Minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience.
Demonstrated abilities managing and overseeing moderately
complex and high-impact projects, and in developing new
concepts and approaches where little or no precedents exist.
Excellent ability to advocate and negotiate
programs/projects with customers(s). Competence in
program/project management and financial planning. Ability
to make decisions and work independently. Excellent
interpersonal and public communications skills, conflict
resolution, and teaming skills. Demonstrated understanding
of the physical and chemical properties of hydrogen and the
effects of these properties on the safe production,
distribution, delivery, and utilization of hydrogen as an
energy carrier and fuel. Able to travel up to 60% of time.
Preferred
PhD. Knowledge of and experience with the
codes and standards development process in the U.S.
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to
interact and collaborate with technical experts serving on
standards and model code development committees. Established
record of research and development in energy, experience
working with hydrogen as an energy carrier or fuel.
Knowledge of DOE's HFCIT Program as well as current and

The
position is with a small, high-tech research and development
company
involved in the innovation and development of new technologies
and products.
The
candidate will support a variety of projects, with a focus on
the
design, assembly and testing of a unique, mobile,
high-pressure gaseous
hydrogen refueling station. Specific responsibilities include
component
selection, fluid systems analysis and design, the design and
analysis of
mechanical supports, refueling station packaging, and testing
of prototype
subsystems. Applicant should have strong mechanical design
skills and
experience (Solidworks is preferred); be comfortable with
structural
analysis of simple mechanical components; and have a general
working
knowledge of high-pressure gas systems and instrumentation
(design,
assembly, operation). A BS degree in engineering and 2-4 years
of relevant
experience, or MS degree in engineering and 1-3 years of
relevant experience
