Measurement of Electrochemical Performance of

Single Cell Planar Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

 
Scope

This test method will cover the determination of the area specific resistance and electrochemical performance of single cell, planar solid oxide fuel cells tested in a circular, button-cell geometry between 700 – 900 C. The electronic response of the cell is measured at prescribed values of temperature, fuel composition, and fuel flow rates. The test method will provide complete and detailed information on test apparatus, configuration, and calibration; test specimen geometry, preparation, characterization and conditioning; control and measurement of experimental parameters; fuel and oxidant specifications; test conditions and procedures; data collection and calculations; and test reporting requirements. The test method will provide SOFC developers and users direction on how to test SOFC prototype materials and systems in a uniform and consistent manner that will give accurate, complete and comparable performance.
